Me and My ASUS
Check out what gadgety-hubs got me. The ASUS Eee PC. I've always told him from years back that I want a small basic laptop that I can just switch on and off without all the palava of boot ups and shutdowns. Nothing fancy, just basic functionality. I didn't want a PDA cos this stylus business just never took off with me.
Believe it or not, they didn't have anything really worth talking about until now - The ASUS Eee PC for less than SGD600!!!
It runs on Linux which is a pretty lightweight OS yet I can pretty much do most of what I like to do..... e.g. Surfing (blogging), MSN, email. The keyboard while small, is large enough for me to be able to touch type. I can't really work on it cos I need a bigger keyboard and screen to be able to work properly for long hours... but I didn't get this to do work on anyway, so no issue. I got it more for the last bit of blogging or messaging in bed before lights out. Or maybe something to bring with me for a pedicure or foot reflexology. (It fits into my handbag easily.) With Wireless@SG, you can pretty much get connectivity anywhere!
Ahh.... I am addicted. I just turn it on in the evenings lying in bed just for the hell of it.... Thanks Paul! :x One of the few gadgets you've bought me that I actually like.... :P
Size difference between my HP nc6220 and my ASUS Eee PC - Cute!

hey peng!!
this awesome laptop for less than $600???

pat
Hey Pat!!!
I would hesitate to call it a full fledged laptop cos it doesn't really have a hard drive. It just has a 4Gb SSD storage(Solid State Disk)
Also it is pre-installed with a Linux OS but it is also XP compatible but of course with XP it will need all that start up and shut down time which I just hate. The beauty of Linux is that it is pretty much "ON/OFF"!
You can check out more about it here: http://event.asus.com/eeepc/microsites/en/index.htm
Anyway Paul got mine from Paris Silk in Holland Village. They have pretty good prices for pretty much everything (Hair dryer, washing machine, alarm clocks,.... you name it,...) and without much haggling (which I hate).
Enjoy!
when i was still working, i used to be in awe of the japanese team when we had regional conferences. they would take out their teeny tiny laptops from their HANDBAGS (normal size bags) and begin taking notes... while the rest of us were using complimentary paper and pens from the hotel. so you are now very cool and jap-hitech.
Haha.... I guess I must be!!!! :P
Well actually, if I were to do any amount of efficient note taking on the ASUS I would need to practice. Also need to cut all my nails. It is really quite small! But totally doable!
