Parents - guilty as charged. Emma being 5 yrs old couldn't be blamed for the lack of training. It's not like she could just go out for a jog on her own. Ok, I won't be too hard on myself, cos in more than 1 occasion, Emma did display moments of a lack of motivation which did not exactly entice me to take her out running.
Anyway, the Sunday evening before the ColdStorage Run, I started to really worry that Emma wouldn't be able to even complete the run (be it 800m). Paul was out on his long run,... it was just me. Last resort, I took the girls to the gym. Emma was going on the treadmill! She was SO EXCITED. Cate was cheering her on....
Well, as it turned out, Emma running on a treadmill proved to be a whole set of other challenges! Forget trying to finish 800m! I had to watch her like a hawk to make sure she ran forward in a straight line (else risk falling off the side), make sure she didn't trip over her own feet. On the side, make sure that Cate didn't touch the treadmill (which she did try to do with her little hands! :O)
Anyway, Emma managed to complete 1.8km pretty much non-stop. Only a very quick stop to get a drink of water (no way she could have drunk and run on the treadmill at the same time). It was at a pretty slow pace, but I thought she did great. :)
Emma on the treadmill, perpetually watching the distance counter for when she can stop!
This behaviour seems to be apparent for all age groups!

After Emma was done with her run, I thought to get on the treadmill real quick too seeing as I would be running alongside her for her run next weekend. I was shocked to find that I was struggling!!! My back was aching, my stomach was contracting. I didn't even do the 800m. I managed just 500m!!!!! @_@ I am worried about whether I could ever get back into running again even after Sophie arrives.... Sigh! One step at a time...
