Emma (Jr AAA) @ NIE Track

We have been planning on signing Emma up for the ColdStorage Kids Run on 1 June. Emma is keen but I'd been hesitating simply cos I am not sure she can run continuously for 800m! Last time I took her to the track for fun many months back, she only knew how to sprint and would be completely knackered in less than 200m!
For her age group it is an 800m run! That is like 2 times round the track! Isn't that quite a distance for a 5 year old???? And the category is for 3 - 6 yrs olds! Imagine Cate running even half a loop!

Anyway last night we took Emma to the NIE track and she had so much fun! She jogged round the track about 6 times in total (with breaks in between) - accompanying the various AAA uncles and aunties on their warm up rounds. It's funny cos her thighs were REALLY ITCHY which is exactly what happened to me when I hadn't run for a long while.

Emma and Papa's gear at the track. CUTE! :)

Emma with Uncle d2.

Well, in conclusion, I think we should be able to sign her up for the Coldstorage Kid's Fun Run, and I think she should be able to finish it. Can't wait to cheer her on!

Quote of the night:

Emma: "Uncle Colin is faster than Uncle Shem you know...."
Aunty Mel (the shit stirrer): "Come Emma, Uncle Shem is just there. Let's go tell Uncle Shem what you just said...."

OMG look at Emma's eeny weeny grown-up looking running shoes - SO CUTE! Where did you get them? They look so professional.

They are from New Balance (Velocity). Weird brand but it was the only shop that did running shoes for kids that looked like it was really for running.

Haha! You are nuts!

Actually Emma was describing her run round the track with Shem... "fast slow, fast slow....". Maybe he was doing intervals with her! Haha... hilarious!

My first pair of trainers were from New Balance :) Nice 80s pair with velcro fasteners instead of laces. Actually I think New Balance is quite cool!

BTW is the comment above counted as 'comment spam'? I got one but deleted it.

Yup it is spam, just deleted also.

I remembered having velcro trainers too. SO cool! I had Puma trainers too. And there was this other brand very 80s,.... haiyah,... I can't remember. It has totally stopped now I think. Will have a think about it and let you know....ARGH!

LA Gear!!!! That's the 80s brand I was trying so hard to remember! Who else remembers LA Gear!!!!???

Great! so have you signed Ems up yet? I tried signing abi up but when I clicked 'submit' i got an error message. so now if i signed her up, i'll have to pay $10 extra - early bird signup is over. How wonderful is that, a sporting family!!! You'll need a baby trainer - is that what it's called? push the baby in stroller as you run. Like the angmos.

I had one pair of white LA gear trainers but I didnt know how to do the cool 'square shape' lace effect. I did however have fat sparkly laces and also the spiral/corkscrew laces.
What was up with the bad fashion back then?!? I'm so glad I don't have pictures... hahaha!

BTW - you can STILL buy LA Gear.

Yes! She is all signed up!

Only problem is that the run is the morning after the Sundown Marathon that Paul is running so chances are I have to run with Emma! I will be about 8 months then! Hopefully I'll be able to manage the 800m. Well I definitely won't be able to carry her and run if/when she gives up! Hahaha....

I've signed Abi up too - finally! No worries, if you can't run that morning, I'll run with Emma, but i think she'll probably run ahead of Abi. Laws' doing sundown too. Oh, do you know where to get kids running shorts? i've been looking and loooooooking.

No. The running shorts that Emma uses (as per pictures on blog) are beach shorts from Old Navy.

I don't see such shorts in Singapore. It is weird cos doesn't it look like something pretty basic and staple????
