Who is Mummy On The Go?...

Introduction
Peng Tay-Chew, … mother of 3, wife of 1…

My Family
I was born in Singapore, my father is a Singaporean and my mother is British (but she is Chinese and also grew up in Singapore,… but that is another story altogether). I have 2 siblings, a sister and a brother, where I am the youngest.

My Childhood
I lived in Singapore the 1st 12 years of my life where I had a pretty happy and peaceful childhood in sunny Singapore. Just after my 12th birthday, my parents sent me to an all-girls boarding school in England where I spent the next 5 years of my life. Boarding school in the outskirts of London where I was literally locked away for weeks at a time may sound dreadful to most, but I would say that I had some of the best years of my life there. After 5 years, it was time for uni and that was when I moved to London where I went to King’s College, University of London to do Engineering. After which I did a Masters in IT at University College London (UCL), University of London. Why I did Engineering, I am still not totally sure today,… but I think I was a bit of a lazy sod and thought Physics and Maths was much easier than anything literary where I would need to read and write lots and memorise big fat books. As it turned out, I was right. :)

After almost 10 years in the UK, I came to a decision point on whether to stay on in London or move back to Singapore. I chose to stay in London, got a job and all. However when I came home to Singapore to pack all my belongings, I had a change of heart and decided to STAY!

I thank my parents for giving me the experiences that I had. Putting me through school to give me one of the most valuable gifts that any parent could give their child which is knowledge and an education. My father has always said, “I can give you money but that will not feed you forever,… an education would.” I may have disputed that while I was living my poor student life in London living on ready salted crisps and Coke, but I get it now…

My mother,…. I thank for holding the family together no matter what. All of us were scattered around the world,… Parents in Singapore, …sister in the US, London, France,… brother in London, Down Under. Now all of us are back living in Singapore and I think my mother played a large part in this. I can’t quite pin point what it was but perhaps Lee Hsien Loong should have a word with her!

My Adulthood
Well to fast forward,… got myself a job in an American Consulting Firm (where I am still at incidentally), met Paul (the military man),… had a whirlwind courtship and married him within a year! Been married more than 10 years now! We have gone past the 7 year itch and still going,…. I can’t say that marriage is always a breeze, but if you love each other, it will work out.

Paul was posted to California for 1½ yrs shortly after we were married and I managed to find a project there with the same company and moved there with him! He was living in Monterey and me in San Francisco mostly but we were only about a 2hr drive apart and managed to be see each other every weekend! There was a ton of stuff to do there,…. golf, camping, skiing,… we mainly played a lot of golf and I am talking A LOT. I was literally in golf attire ALL the time ever ready for either a game or the range! (those were the .com times where you were allowed to wear antyhing at work) We miss California!

Shortly after returning from California, I was pregnant with E and my life has never been the same since (in a good way of course!)…
Other stuff about me…
I still love golf but with the weather in Singapore, it is a little less enticing…

A few years back, Paul and I started to take an interest in other sports such as cycling, swimming and running. Did some biathlons, triathlons, half marathons, marathons. I have managed to injur myself since so I don't do all that anymore but still try to exercise daily or at least a few times a week.

In Conclusion
I have a lot to be thankful for and I know that the good Lord has a large part to play in this… I also thank my family and friends for making me who I am today.
